Cabaret Queen team heading to Newbury
It might be a task to discover a great viewing point to see the Ladbrokes Trophy – after their ranks have been taken by the proprietors of contender Cabaret Queen .
With virtually all the Syndicates.Racing bands 69 members – who have the Willie Mullins-trained seven-year-old – set to embark on the Berkshire track on Saturday, it will be standing room only as they try to capture a glimpse of the pride and joy in action.
1 member of this raiding party group to be in attendance is London-based Mairead Ni Cheoinin, whos coping with nerves before Cabaret Queen attempts to combine a roll of honour including such greats like Arkle and Denman.
She explained:We thought she would give us a few fine days out, where you meet a nice group of folks at the parties, and that I didnt believe any more of that.
There will be more than 60 members of this syndicate there. Many are currently flying at the morning – and I believe there possibly three-quarters of an Aer Lingus plane landing 8am at Heathrow!
The team consists of people from every walk of life, from postmen to agricultural workers, from throughout the globe. There will be grannies, second cousins and third cousins once removed cheering her on as well. Itll be like having our own mini-Cheltenham there.
Picked up for #13,000 out of the Dan Skelton yard at the Goffs horses in training sale in May, Cabaret Queen has given the band a day to remember – operating out a fashionable winner of last months Munster National at Limerick on her next beginning for Mullins.
Cheoinin said:She was fantastic in Limerick. Did she return. After she got into her stride that is extended along with her straight back and ears up and removed the fifth-last, that was magnificent.
I was envious of everybody in the syndicate which was there, since it turned out to be a beautiful afternoon – we fearful a few of the punters at the pub we watched it in with the roars we were crying out at one point!
Im of a certain age where Ive had to put up with individuals showing me pictures of grandchildren and kids, but I have gone around showing the movie of the final portion of their Munster National and movies of Cabaret Queen – therefore I have my revenge in that manner.
Though used to dealing with horsepower of a kind in her global marine promoting role, Cheoinin is just too pleased she took the recommendation of a friend and answered to the call of racing director Jack Cantillon.
She explained:Im not out of a racing history whatsoever – I would learn more about ships than creatures. Was my neighbours Connemara ponies.
Once I showed a friend who purchases and sells horses what Jack was doing, he stated he had been a fantastic guy and that it was the sort of thing I would like and get access to, something I havent done before.
It was a fantastic opportunity to acquire just a little step into a horse racing and then dip our toe into the water so far it has worked out nicely.
Having caught a glimpse of a number of Cabaret Queens rivals – like ante-post favorite OK Corral from Nicky Hendersons lawn – through a morning at Newbury, Cheoinin is currently keeping her fingers crossed the bargain buy of Syndicate can provide again.
Cheoinin explained:We just want her to have a race which she enjoys and be healthy in the start and the end – and that Mr Mullins is pleased with her performance.
It is a really major challenge, but when she approaches it did the Munster National she will compose herself well.
Racing is about daring to dream large, and Cheoinin hopes a good performance from Cabaret Queen in Newbury might be the second step towards a potential outing at the holy grail later in the season of National Hunt racing – that the Cheltenham Festival.
She added:Itd be the ultimate thing to run her in the Cheltenham Festival. It could be good to conduct her, although I am not saying it must be the Gold Cup.
The Gold Cup is a frightening prospect, but when she can do it and Mr Mullins is happy with her then why not?
