Pick Six: Neil Reynolds picks six storylines from NFL week 1
That is this 2019 NFL season’s full Sunday in the novels and, as always, it functioned plenty of points. Listed here are my views on performances and the storylines.
For months we have eagerly anticipated the unveiling of a Cleveland Browns team laden with superstars like quarterback Baker Mayfield, recipients Odell Beckham Jr. along with Jarvis Landry; and defensive stud Myles Garrett. Even the Tennessee Titans – their competitions – were assumed to be a and were just supposed to fly to Cleveland to make up the numbers.
But the visitors handily and won by a 43-13 scoreline. A fierce Titans defense that recorded 3 interceptions and five sacks stifled the Browns. But what was even worrying was that Cleveland did as much to beat themselves, committing an 18 penalties. New head coach Freddie Kitchens has a big week to get his team – which still needs to know how to win with subject – straightened out
NBC Sports’ Peter King combined our policy at halftime of our match on Sunday night and informed me Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson did hardly any running throughout training camp. Bear in mind, 2018 Jackson hurried an average of 17 times a game while just throwing in the region of 21 or 22 passes. His passing left a lot to be desired as a beginner but not on Sunday night.
In a shellacking of this dreadful Miami Dolphins, Lamar hit for yards and five touchdowns 17 of 20 attempts. It turned out to be a magnificent showing but we have to see more since the Dolphins might just be the worst team in the league. It was so easy for the Ravens that backup passer Robert Griffin III came off the seat and went six of six to 55 yards and one score.
The Kyler Murray experience didn’t seem like being a good one because the Arizona Cardinals looked just like stubbing their fur. Murray struggled in the early going – he started by finishing just seven 18 passes for 49 yards and one interception.
The 22-year-old also took three sacks since the Lions took charge of the match. But he balled out since the Cardinals and Detroit played out a 27-27 tie woke up at the fourth quarter. The Cardinals are, by no means, going to be a quick fix but there is most definitely expect for the future given their rookie quarterback awakened and improved his performance.
There has been a gnashing of teeth when it has to do with the Indianapolis Colts and the Los Angeles Chargers. The Colts lost celebrity quarterback Andrew Luck to retirement fourteen days prior to the beginning of the season and the Chargers went without banged-up security Derwin James hurt attack Russell Okung and holdout running back Melvin Gordon.
As the Chargers emerged as 30-24 winners in overtime both teams played. Ekeler is busting Gordon leverage because he subs because of his team-mate that is backfield. I believe they demonstrated that they’re capable of being playoff contenders this year while neither team was ideal.
There were two observations which could be made in 2018 regarding the Dallas Cowboys offense. One was that so much of the assault was predictable and paled compared to strikes such as Kansas City, New Orleans and the Los Angeles Rams.
The other was that celebrity rusher Ezekiel Elliott would be run through by the majority of the crime. As the quarterback threw for 405 yards and four touchdowns, However, it was the Dak Prescott show. New offensive coordinator Kellen Moore dialed up a great game program, making the Dallas crime one worth monitoring in the coming months.
No Hall of Fame tight end Rob Gronkowski? No starting center David Andrews who is out injured for the year? No issue for a New England Patriots team that hammered the Pittsburgh Steelers 33-3 on Sunday night. This one wasn’t a contest and the Steelers, dare I say it, seemed like they missed stars that were departed and bothered Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown.
Whilst JuJu Smith-Schuster had six catches for 78 yards running back James Conner carried 10 times for 21 yards against a New England defense that was dominant. The Pats 42-year-old quarterback Tom Brady sublime and were both imperious. He threw for 341 yards and three touchdowns and the rich are going to get wealthier. Antonio Brown is on his way into Foxboro. I am composing my opening Patriots links for the Super Bowl in Miami to get in front of the game!
