Poker Party plays winning hand in Kerry National
When winning a race to the Guinness Kerry National Handicap Chase in Listowel Rachael Blackmore was given another Victory by poker Party.
Successful in the spring festivals in England and Ireland, Blackmore was seen to good effect on Henry Bromhead’s seven-year-old.
The combination had only got as far as the weapon in the Galway Plate, but made amends.
As Yorkhill and Valseur Lido establish a pace for the three 21, blackmore was pleased to sit out the back.
They were cooked entirely seven fences from the finish, leaving Icantsay and Inner Transfer .
Internal Transport was still battling two out, but the pack closed in – with Poker Party (14-1) made to perfection.
Neil Mulholland’s British challenger Shantou Village made a dramatic exit in the final fence. That left Poker Party, who adhered to the job determinedly to find the verdict with Ravenhill as the only danger.
Na Trachtalai – at the exact same ownership as the winner – was with Internal Transfer fourth.
De Bromhead explained:”After the Plate we said we would aim towards today, however it was more get him around and try to make him a bit of confidence in those big handicaps.
“I believed we threw him into the Plate a bit and he even got the fright of his life. In equity to Brian (Acheson, proprietor ), ” he stated to Rachael in case you can finish fourth or fifth I will be absolutely delighted.
“She made him jumping and he began to enjoy himself. He floor it out and stuck down his head in the finish. It’s amazing to win the raceand to emulate my father who won it.
